

Laura Butler has been working in theatre since the age of fifteen. She
was the first of two students to be admitted into La
Católica University‚s theatre group, Luis Torres
Nadal, in Ponce, PR. She went on to receive her BA in theatre from the
University of Puerto Rico in San Juan; where she formed a part of their
theatre ensemble for two years, taking plays to various communities
around the island. She led an independent mov! ement workshop along
with Daniel Irizarry (Columbia MFA in Acting, 2004) in Arecibo, PR in
2002, and later in New York, 2006. Butler then attended a workshop on
the Greeks based on Grotowski‚s studies, with Gardzienice in
Poland, in whose 25th production of Elektra she was invited to
participate. In 2003 Butler became the first Puerto Rican woman to be
admitted into the MFA acting program of Columbia University; she will
graduate in 2006. In the summer of 2005 she toured The Maids, directed
by Ulla Wolcz, along with her classmates Kelly Eubanks and Rebecca
Henderson to San Diego, California. They went under the banner of NU

. In the winter of 2005 she appeared in a DADA film that formed part of
a theatre piece in Germany directed by Niky Wolcz. From May to October,
2006 she will participate in three productions internationally under
the direction of Ulla Wolcz and Niky Wolcz: A series of one acts and
The Maids in Berlin, Germany; the remounting of Scapin in Italy; and
Comedy of Errors in Essen, Germany.

(Dorine), and Scapin (Hyacinth) presented at Classic Stage Company; Don

Repertorio Español; and Agamemnon (Kassandra), Jacques
